Here in the low country of South Carolina we have some of the most talented people that can be found anywhere. Our  entire store revolves around  artist local to our area here in the low country.  From basketry to toy makers, we endeavor to find experts in their field of Art and Craft.

You will find these people today in the tourist attractions here in Charleston, SC. Downtown at the old slave market you will find several ladies who sit daily, weaving Sweet Grass Baskets. A craft handed down mother to daughter since the days of African slavery in America.

Local artists have used novel items such as "old Charleston brick" which when made were fashioned after the very large bricks used in England, to paint scenic views of our beaches and oceans. These bricks are also used as door stops. They will walk the beaches, and pick up Sand Dollars, and use them also for scenic paintings.

Here in our store you will find many of these items and more. Toys and tools fashioned and crafted by people local to our area.

Take your time and browse through our store, enjoy yourself and perhaps you will find something you will like.

Sweet Grass basket making has been a part of the Lowcountry community more than 300 years.  It was brought to our country by slaves from  Africa. Today it is very likely the oldest form of  African art in our country.  The Lowcountry of South Carolina enjoys the distinction of being the only place of this type of basketry.  Each design is unique to the craftswoman who made the basket.  There are no 2 baskets alike.

During the days of slavery these baskets were in demand for agricultural purposes. Those baskets usually made by men, being larger, were made of bull rushes, being stronger and more durable.  The women made Sweet Grass baskets for use in the home.

These baskets are made from grasses that are common to our area here in the Lowcountry.  Water doesn't harm them.  The only care needed is with a cloth or gentle brush, they can be cleaned with soapy water and air dried.
